Artificial Intelligence and the Radiographer / Radiological Technologist Profession
Artificial Intelligence and the Radiographer / Radiological Technologist Profession In 2019, the ISRRT and the EFRS established a joint working group with the specific objectives: To undertake a comprehensive review of the published evidence related to artificial intelligence (AI) and radiographers / radiologic technologists. To produce a joint statement to provide radiographers / radiologic technologists with guidance on key aspects of AI and our profession to allow radiographers / radiologic technologists to embrace opportunities, address challenges, and the continuing importance of our professional roles. We are pleased to now confirm the publication of this joint statement as a Guest Editorial in the Radiography journal, the official journal of the EFRS and the number one ranked journal for our profession. This ISRRT-EFRS joint statement sets out the position of both organisations in terms of AI and our profession. It offers some guidance for national societies, healthcare providers, education providers, regulators, and individuals. The full citation for the joint statement is: International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists, European Federation of Radiographer Societies. Artificial Intelligence and the Radiographer/Radiological Technologist Profession: A joint statement of the ISRRT the EFRS. Radiography, 2020; 26(2): 93-5. The full published journal article can be freely accessed here A downloadable version of the document with a cover page can also be accessed at www.isrrt.org under the AI tab and at www.efrs.eu under the publication tabs. We hope that our members will help to further disseminate this information to our members. The ISRRT and EFRS would like to thank the members of the working group, co-chaired by Dr. Nick Woznitza (EFRS / UK) and Håkon Hjemly (ISRRT / NO). The working group comprises: Dr. Nick Woznitza (EFRS), Håkon Hjemly (ISRRT), Prof. Maryann Hardy (EFRS), Lars Henriksen (ISRRT), Dr. Sundaran Kada (EFRS), Dr. Naoki Kodama (ISRRT), Dr. John Stowe (EFRS), and Dr. Yudthaphon Vichianin (ISRRT). These individuals are now working on the second phase of this initiative. The EFRS and ISRRT will have a joint workshop on Artificial Intelligence and the Radiographer Profession at ECR 2020. E-Learning Platform on COVID-19 training for Radiographers
E-Learning Platform on COVID-19 training for Radiographers The International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT) in partnership with the European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS) are developing e-learning resources on COVID-19 for medical imaging radiographers across the world that are caring for our patients as frontline staff. This material will be free of charge and can be access starting on Wednesday 22nd April at https://www.elearning.isrrt.org. Just click on the on the COVID e-learning button found on the front homepage of the ISRRT website. Here you will eLearning materials with emphasis on mobile chest radiography. We appreciate that many hospitals, regions within countries and countries are spending time to create teaching and support materials and the work being done here should save people a lot of time by providing a single international resource. In the first instance, the following will be covered: Introduction to viruses for radiographers; introduction to Covid-19 for radiographers Measures radiographers can take to minimise risk to themselves during professional working and their families Effective communication Mobile X-ray equipment Radiographic Procedure Radiation Protection Image review and reporting Patient informatics Audit and learning The above will be accompanied by a guide document which will provide an overview of the learning and support materials in order to make the information easy to use and access. Information will be announced very shortly about how to access the website. Finally, we should like to thank Professor Peter Hogg (University of Salford, UK) and Mr Ken Holmes (University of Cumbria, UK) for leading this work and a large number of content authors from across the world for creating the teaching and support materials. Additionally, watch for details on the ISRRT and EFRS websites and social media platforms for information on a live Webinar on COVID-19 which will give an overview and direct professionals where to go to get additional e-learning material to be used to support their daily practice. Join the fight against Covid-19 on the ESR Twitter channel
Dear ESR family, Dear colleagues, Social Media especially Twitter pose an excellent possibility to get in contact with colleagues from all around the world. We would like to ask you all to follow us on Twitter and help us to connect medical imaging professionals in their fight against Covid-19. Please share and post everything from scientific research to daily working experience regarding the coronavirus and discuss it with your colleagues in this #Thread A picture of Prof. Derchi, ESR Past-President, at work, was shared yesterday on social media, together with a thank you message to everyone fighting the virus, which is receiving overwhelming response. Across all platforms, the posts received almost 400 likes so far and have been seen by 8,000 people. See the post here. On March 12 two lectures with Professor Josef Penninger, world-leading geneticists and molecular immunologists, were streamed live from the ESR Connect studio in Vienna. The first lecture under the umbrella of ESR Connect under the title 'ACE2 – a rational frontline therapy for COVID-19', the second one together with the Austrian thinktank Agenda Austria and in German language. Both lectures together have been viewed over 120,000 times on-demand. We have made the ESR Connect lecture public on YouTube for everyone to be able to access it easily and for free, which you can find here. I wish you and your loved ones strength, health and courage in these very difficult and turbulent times and I am sure that together we will overcome the challenges we are currently facing! Best regards, Boris Brkljacic Chairman of the ESR Board of Directors

EFRS: Coronavirus pandemic
Dear Colleagues, The current global COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic is impacting on all of us and will be with us all for some time. On behalf of the EFRS Executive Board and Team, I wanted to take this opportunity to recognise the significant pressures your organisations (Societies, Educational Institutions, and Trade Unions) are facing at this time. I have heard stories from many countries across Europe, and beyond, of national radiographer societies, educational institutions, clinical departments, and individual radiographers showing a strong, united, and supportive approach to dealing with these once in a lifetime circumstances. Radiographers are playing a hugely important role at this time; you are demonstrating your professionalism, your skills, your care and compassion, your resilience, to go above and beyond in playing your part in this battle against the pandemic. While hard decisions are being made to close workplaces, educational institutions, cancel meetings, events, and conferences; even tougher decisions are being made by front-line healthcare professionals in the management of this crisis. For those of you in leadership positions, now is your time to lead our profession through these unprecedented challenges which, for many of us, will no doubt get worse before things get better. We thank all radiographers for your efforts, your service, and the pride you are showing in our profession at this time. We wish you well and we wish your family and loved ones well. Remember the EFRS motto at this time: Together everything is possible! Sincerely, Jonathan McNulty President, European Federation of Radiographer Societies
